Recall of Defective Exploding Airbags Moving Slowly

Recall of Defective Exploding Airbags Moving Slowly

The massive Takata air bag recall covering 34 million vehicles with defective air bags is the largest vehicle recall in history. The recall of Takata air bags was issued in the wake of eleven fatalities and hundreds of injuries caused by defective inflator and propellant devices that may cause the air bag to deploy improperly and spew shrapnel at vehicle occupants. Less than a third of the potentially affected air bags had been replaced a full year after the recall. Despite the massive scope of the recall, the federal government recently signaled that it might extend the recall to 85 million more vehicles unless Takata can establish the air bags are safe.
