Ford Pickups and Explorer

RECALL SUBJECT:
Ford Motor Company
DATE:
Date: May 22, 2017
MANUFACTURER:
Ford Motor Company
SUMMARY:

After only recently making the news in a May 2017 Washington Post report highlighting our lawsuit on behalf of Ford Focus and Ford Fusion customers over transmission safety defects, the Ford Motor Company is once again making headlines due to a recall concerning certain late-models of their popular line of F-150 and Super Duty pickup trucks and Explorer SUVs. The issue concerns defects in the manual seat backs, which may not provide adequate restraint to protect drivers in the event of a crash.

Recall Subject: Certain 2017 Ford F-150 pickups; 2017 Ford F-250, F-350, F-4450, and F-550 Super Duty pickups; and 2017 Ford Explorer SUVs

NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V332000

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has an open campaign affecting the Ford Motor Company and roughly 1,500 certain model year 2017 Ford F-150 and Super Duty pickup trucks, as well as certain 2017 For Explorer SUVs. Campaign number 17V333000 concerns a manual seat back frame that was improperly welded at facilities in the Missouri, Michigan, Kentucky, and Ohio area between December and January 2016. As the result of assembly issues with the welds, the seat does not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard requirements regarding head restraints and seating systems.

CONSEQUENCE:

Due to the inadequate welds, the seat backs may not properly restrain drivers or passengers in the event of an accident, increasing the risk for serious and potentially life threatening head, back, and neck injuries.

SOLUTION:

If you own a 2017 Ford F 150, Explorer, or Super Duty pickup truck made at one of the listed facilities, you should have received notice from the dealer after the recall went into effect on June 7, 2017. If you have not been notified or have concerns whether your vehicle is affected by the recall, you can contact Ford directly at 866-436-7332, and reference recall number 17C08. Under the terms of the recall, your dealer will inspect your back seat frame and replace it free of charge, as necessary.
